LISA and SANDHYA PRESNENT SABER LONG TALK!

Lisa and Sandhya were invited to co-present a long talk at the Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research's annual conference.

While most talks at SABER follow the traditional scientific presentation format of 10-15 minute talks with 5 minutes for questions, the long talks are unique for their 50-min talk format with 10 minutes of questions. Lisa and Sandhya took on the additional challenge of co-presenting, weaving together their dynamic to share research findings!

In this talk, they shared very recent findings from Sandhya's NSF postdoctoral research - a large-scale project studying undergraduate failures in CURE settings nationwide. The talk highlighted three different investigations within that research:

  1. The changes we see in students' fear of failure and goal orientation when students report experiencing research failure in CUREs

  2. the changes we see in students' fear of failure and goal orientation when students say they learn from research failure in CUREs

  3. the role of students' identities in experiencing and navigating failures

The SABER audience appreciated Lisa and Sandhya's seamless coordination, the research topic and findings, as well as the active engagement peppered through the talk. This kind of coordinated talk also inspired other postdocs to apply to present long talks with their mentors!
