Buff Backyard Orchard Planted!
The 30th Street Orchard Is In!
On May 3rd, 2025, Amy Dunbar-Wallis coordinated and led the planting of the Buff Backyard Orchard right on the backyard of CU Boulder campus! Joined by a lovely community of CU undergraduate and graduate students, Boulder community members and representatives from [LIST OF COMPANIES THAT SHOWED UP].
We are extremely excited and grateful to CU Boulder’s Environmental Center for funding the Orchard thanks to the Sustainability Grant on the proposal submitted by an amazing group of undergraduate students. We would also like to thank [ORCHARD NAME] for grafting the apple trees we planted. Finally, we would also like to thank BiocharNow for donating biochar for our first experiment being conducted at the orchard and led by Manuela Mejia, which will investigate the effects of biochar on soil insects diversity and abundance.
The planting of this orchard is the culmination of years worth of work and research on some of Colorado’s oldest apple cultivars, education research on science civic engagement, and a bright future of a space that will continue to build community for both students and Boulderite to come!
